Beijing took extreme measures to try to contain the virus. China placed millions of people in major cities on lockdown. It also extended the Lunar New Year holiday to better fight the situation. The majority of the manufacturing units are not yet open because of the extended Chinese New Year holiday. Apple have more than 42 Apple Stores in China.

With short notice, apple decided to close down all their apple stores in China for a certain period. They want to asses the situation better before opening the stores again. But the online stores will still be available.

Before that they said to CNN, ” Out of an abundance of caution and based on the latest advice from leading health experts, we’re closing all our corporate offices, stores and contact centers in mainland China through February 9. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and we look forward to reopening our stores as soon as possible. “

Apple stores are normally a very common place for potential customers to gather. They touch the same apple devices to have a better look of the product. Some even comes to just watch the latest updates in the Apple market. These gatherings can also spread the virus. So, authority decided to close the shops until further improvement of the situation.

Supply Chain of Apple not in Risk Yet from China

Moreover, if the outbreak of Corona Virus continues long, the supply chain could break down. Rumors in the market that, Apple might delay the launch date of iPhone 9. But Apple reconfirmed that is not the case yet. Meanwhile market launch for iPhone 9 was estimated as the end of March. Initial planned order volume for iPhone 9 is 30 million units as per the market gossips.
